Mos Def dropped his moderately anticipated new album Tru3 Magic. It must be tough for Mos Def given America’s love for Islam.

Lucky for him there’s always someone who will buy into your niche. His acting career is going well. Mos Def recently got arrested for his warranted hurricane katrina protest. (Was free speech ever real?) He was also in court for not paying child support to his ex wife.

Still somebodies got to save the world…

Some Def Jam artists, from LL Cool J to Nore have been hollering about the Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter, comeback Kingdom Come.

As LL Cool J Todd Smith said:

“How am I gonna re-sign with competition? I’m not an idiot,” LL Cool J told MTV. “I can’t depend on that man (Jay-Z) to promote my record while he’s somewhere writing rhymes.” (LL Cool J is teaming with 50 cent on his last Def Jam Album)

Young Jeezy isn’t fazed:

“Everybody got their lane. This industry is a highway and everybody got their lane and me and Jay ain’t in the same lane,” Young Jeezy told AllHipHop.com. “I don’t feel what he’s doing is interfering with what I’m doing. We do two different types of music for two different types of movements. Real n***as are glad he’s back.”

Russell Simmons Brings Attention to World Aids Day

Russell Simmons has spoken out on world aids day as he visits Botswana and South Africa (seen inspecting a diamond in Botswana here).

Simmons and his delegation has discovered more and more Africans have been trained to sort, cut and polish diamonds, thereby taking part in a greater part of the diamond pipeline process. Simmons is there on a recon. mission for Simmons Jewelly Co.

While in South Africa he made a statement on World AIDS day.

The disease has made an impact in the hip-hop community with the deaths of West Coast rhymesayer Eazy E and X-Clan member Sugar Shaft.

Texan Rapper Twisted Black has been sentenced to life imprisonment for drug conspiracy

Texas-based rapper Twisted Black has been sentenced to life in prison according to his website.

35-year-old Tommy Burns aka Twisted Black was found guilty of conspiracy to sell crack cocaine in a US District court after being arrested by DEA authorities back in July of this year.

The government’s case was built on the testimony of Courtney Iglehart, who claimed that he met Black at a Fort Worth recording studio and paid him $4,500 for a quarter kilogram of powder cocaine in February 2005.

Senegalese R&B Artist Akon Gets Two Top 10 Spots and a No. 1

Akon has hit No. 1 again with his song “I wanna love you” which features Snoop Dogg (who has been arrested again). This followed hot on the heals of “Smack That” as he became the first artist to replace himself at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

“Smack that” which features Eminem also becomes the first NO. 1 on the new Billboard Hot RingMasters Chart.

So the Po-po got a major woody for ol Snoop Dogg. After being arrested in multiple states and countries this year, Snoop Doggy Dogg has been arrested in L.A. after filming the tonight show.

Calvin Broadus was this time charged with possession of cocaine and marijuana, possession of a firearm by a felon, and having a false compartment in his vehicle.

Jay-Z comes out of retirement with a number 1 and 600,000 of “Kingdom Come” moved

After just completing his worldwide Roc Da Block tour and launching a world water charity campaign, Jay-Z has hit the Billboard 200 at number one with “Kingdom Come” selling 680,000 albums in the U.S. in its first week.

This was Jay-Z’s biggest selling debut album ever and means he’s third equal with The Rolling Stones for most number one albums (nine). Just behind the Beatles with 19 and Elvis Presley with 10.

Mos Def has been arrested for a freestyle performance outside the VMA’s which criticized the Bush Administrations poor response to Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans. (Watch the arrest video above)
Mos Def, his entourage and his brother were arrested for performing without a permit and disorderly conduct after he performed “Katrina Clap”

His entourage was apparently warned but Mos Def performed on without being informed.

After only 5 months have passed since releasing Todd Smith, LL Cool J is working on a new as-yet-untitled album with 50 cent producing.

Last night 50 Cent said: “We did six records in three or four days,” and LL Cool J says this album will be the last with Def Jam, “For me, I needed to go and work with somebody who really had my best interests at heart,” he said.

Juelz Santana and Lil Wayne to combine for an I Can’t Feel My Face Album

Lil Wayne and Juelz Santana are set to colab on an album. They are both working on their own solo projects but they intend to expand their mixtape collaboration, “I Can’t Feel My Face,” into a full album and release it early next year.

Juelz Santana has almost completed his next solo album, which is the sequel to “What The Games Been Missin’,” which has sold 655,000 units in the United States… “I have about 75 songs done,” he says. “I like to do 100 or more songs and pick [tracks] out.”

Meantime Lil Wayne working on, “Tha Carter III”, another a collaboration set with rapper Baby, “Like Father, Like Son,” is due Oct. 10.

Daddy Yankee pimped in fake show ticket scam

Reggaeton superstar Daddy Yankee and a number of his fans have been the unwitting victims of a fake concert ticket scam.

A woman has been selling tickets for $100 and using a Limousine as a prop (which she claims to be Daddy Yankee’s with him waiting inside the limo). After selling a stack of tickets she jumped into the limo and screeched off with all the jilted fans dough.

When hundreds of fans finally caught on to the scam, “They were about to burn the club down. They started throwing bricks, glass, everything at the club,” said witness Martinez.
