Controversy Erupts Over The New Bubba Sparxxx Video Ms New Booty And Its Associated Promotion
Their is a storm developing over a website that is used to promote Bubba Sparxxx and his new video “Ms New Booty”.
In the video Bubba plays a home shopping presenter hawking a miracle product that boosts a womens derrière and gives her more confidence. The video is recieving a high rotation on most major media outlets and the song is placed in the top 10 on urban and rhythmic crossover formats and is rapidly ascending on the major pop/top 40 format.
As a promotional tool, a website has been established where fans can upload pictures to a “booty gallery” and vie potentially, for a place in an upcoming Bubba Sparxxx video.
Radio industry watchdogs and parental groups are up in arms citing the video and the accompanying promotion as offensive and “another conduit to sex, pornography and misogyny aimed at children”.
Both Bubba Sparxxx and Jermaine Dupri respond to the criticism below by way of Allhiphop:
(Bubba Sparxxx) “Ms. New Booty to me, is about a woman who exudes confidence and does her thing with a swagger that’s unique to her and only her,” Sparxxx explained to AllHipHop.com. “You take a woman, she’s a flower waiting to bloom. Sometimes you meet a woman, a woman that maybe most people don’t see her beauty. You know with some adjustments you can bring her beauty out.”
(Jermaine Dupri) “People are just really overreacting,” Dupri told AllHipHop.com. “It’s just feel good music. We at Virgin are in no way promoting sex or whatever these media outlets continue to print.”
(Bubba Sparxxx) “It’s for the clubs. It’s for females to feel good about. It’s for men to feel good about. There’s nothing negative going on about it. I’m a little hurt that anyone could take offense to this song. It’s all about that new chick that’s been hurt and making her the best she can be. You put the word ‘booty’ on there and every body says it’s disrespect.”
Bubba Sparxxx is still set to release his Purple Ribbon/Virgin album “The Charm” on April 4, where its expected to debut within the higher rungs of the chart, attributable in part, to the media storm surrounding this controversy.
